Description
IMEDEA-VERT comprises current chordate specimens, most of which are disarticulated skeletons. Dr. Josep Antoni Alcover was the one who promoted its creation in order to obtain a reference osteological collection. The IMEDEA-VERT collection, which is currently growing, is of great scientific interest due to the number and diversity of species represented.
Overall information
Strengths
The IMEDEA-VERT collection includes a representation of the vertebrate fauna on which the different IMEDEA researchers work. It is used mainly both for the realization of studies on these fauna as a comparison collection for the study of extinct fauna. The representation is very good in Mammalia, Aves, Reptilia and Amphibia of the Balearic Islands, and in Birds (osteology) of the western Palearctic. It conserves type specimens of subspecies of mammals of the Balearic Islands.
